Children’s Services Round Table (CSRT)

Rethinking the Story Time Model

Rethinking the “Story Time” Model  It is crucial for libraries to attract patronage through children’s programming.  Typically librarians multitask, putting themselves in the position of storyteller.  Are librarians the best choice for entertaining and engaging story times?  Many communities have access to theatrical, and entertaining personalities through college and theater venues.  In this session learn how hiring professional storytellers can elevate the quality of story times, and increase program  attendance and circulation statistics.

librarians have the opportunity to get together with colleagues, share
ideas and ask questions of each other. If you have some great program
or craft ideas planned, bring your ideas--and a sample--to share with
the group. Matt McLain will also share information from the CSLP
annual meeting, including sample materials for 2014's "Fizz, Boom,
Read!", slogans for 2015 and theme for 2016.

Storytelling on the Move: Telling the Library Story to Schools through Outreach Programs and Promotions

Don’t wait for kids to come to your library, discover how outreach encourages students and their families to visit the library, check out books, and attend programs!  Librarians from three different systems discuss how they initiate contact with teachers and schools, develop techniques for finding room in busy school and library schedules, and hear about how our programs tell the library’s story through book talks, thematic presentations, and monthly visits. Our focus will be on the practicalities of getting permissions, strategies for scheduling, and ideas for programs that fit into core curriculums, as well as demonstrating how these programs increase program attendance.
