Self-Help Reference: Putting the Librarian Back Behind the Curtain:
Brigham Young University is using SpringShare's LibAnswers tool to create a dynamic, interactive FAQ. This publicly accessible knowledgebase will help patrons find answers to their own reference questions. But is that really a good idea? And where does it leave the librarian? Come see how it works, how it's being built, and join the discussion about what it means for libraries.
We’re Going Mobile: Roving Reference in an Academic Library:
In the fall of 2010, the Utah Valley University Library began a roving reference program to assist students who were not being reached by traditional reference services. Using a first-generation iPad, librarians were able to provide full reference assistance to students throughout the five-story building. The speakers will discuss the methods and techniques the UVU librarians use to reach and serve their patrons in a non-traditional format, giving special attention to the challenges of developing and maintaining a roving reference program.
