When Patrons Call the Shots: Patron-Driven Collection Development at Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library has implemented strategies for patron-initiated collection development such as purchasing based on faculty research requests and patron suggestions. More recently, the library instituted an Interlibrary Loan book purchase program; whereby, books recently publication ordered on Interlibrary Loan are selected for rush purchase. This presentation will review and analyze the various methods the library uses to incorporate patrons’ input for collection development and how they work to fulfill patron “just-in-time” needs
